Welcome to 2026! If you’re planning a visit to the city of the Liver Birds, you’ve picked an incredible time. From a brand-new addition to our world-famous waterfront to the return of global music legends, Liverpool is buzzing.
At Walk Liverpool City Tours, we believe the best way to soak up this energy is on foot. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s happening in our city this year and how you can see it all with us.
1. A New Icon on the Mersey
For the first time in over 60 years, a brand-new Mersey Ferry—The Royal Daffodil—will join the fleet this summer. It’s a historic moment for our maritime heritage.
The Walking Connection: Our Free City Tour ends right at the Pier Head, where you can watch the new ferry dock against the backdrop of the Three Graces. It’s the perfect spot for that "classic Liverpool" photo.
2. A Summer of Sound: Anfield & The Pier Head
Liverpool’s status as a UNESCO City of Music is on full display in 2026.
Anfield Stadium: In June, the city welcomes Zach Bryan (June 12), rock legends Foo Fighters (June 25 & 27), and My Chemical Romance (June 30).
On The Waterfront: From June 18–21, the Pier Head transforms into a massive open-air stage. Look out for the 10th Anniversary of Cream Classical, plus sets from Paul Weller and Snow Patrol.
Africa Oyé: The UK’s largest free celebration of African music returns to Sefton Park on June 20–21.
3. Titanic Returns to its Spiritual Home
Early 2026 (January–March) sees a "rare" exhibition, Titanic in Focus, at the White Star Line Hotel (30 James Street). This is the very building where the ship’s journey was planned.
The Walking Connection: Our Free City Walking Tour tour stops right outside 30 James Street. We’ll share the haunting story of how the names of the deceased were read from its balcony in 1912—now made even more poignant by the artifacts on display inside.
4. Sporting Greatness
Liverpool remains the center of the sporting world this year:
The Grand National: The world’s most famous steeplechase returns to Aintree from April 9–11.
The 154th Open: Golf fans will be heading to nearby Royal Birkdale (July 12–19) to see the world's best compete for the Claret Jug.
5. Southport: Year of Culture 2026
Just a short hop from the city center, Southport is celebrating its first ever Year of Culture. Keep an eye out for "Lightport" in February—an immersive light installation—and the spectacular "Cristal Palace" street theater in April.
Plan Your 2026 Visit
Whether you’re here for the football, the music, or the history, there is a story waiting for you around every corner.
Local Tip: 2026 is also the "Year of the Horse" for Chinese New Year. Our Chinatown—the oldest in Europe—will be hosting spectacular celebrations in late January.
